Pinot Nero “Buchholz”

Description:

The steep vineyards of Buchholz perch at elevations of around 440 to 500 meters, above the small town of Salurn in the southernmost part of Alto Adige. Due to an optimum sun exposure, the grapes on the 25 to 60 year old vines can ripen slowly.
The characteristic feature of this location, along with its very cool climate, is its fascinating geology: here the so-called Werfen Formation – this fault line between calciferous dolomite and layers of porphyry with thick layers of red loam – runs across the vineyard. The Buchholz Pinot Noir represents a cool, fruity elegant and delicate Pinot Noir, light-colored with good acidity and low extract.

Pinot Nero “Glen”

Description:

Glen is the most historically important location for the Castelfeder winery, stretching from 450 to 790 meters in elevation directly above Mazon. Because of its southwestern orientation, is blessed by the highest amount of sunshine of all the three locations. Nonetheless, the climate is significantly cooler because of the extreme elevation, resulting in the best qualifications for cultivating outstanding Pinots. Up to 40 individual microvinifications result every year, all of them separately vinified and stored in barrique barrels. The Pinot Nero Glen unites the power and fruitiness of the lower-elevation vineyards with the freshness, elegance and finesse of the higher-elevation lots.

Pinot Nero “Mazon”

Description:

Mazon is the Grand Cru of Italian Pinot Noir. This gentle, high plateau is found at 300-450 meters in elevation above the idyllic village of Neumarkt, the home of the Giovanett family. The vineyards profit from the long hours of evening sun and the cool downslope winds in the evening. The grapevines, in part 60 years old, have been retrained from pergola to Guyot and therefore produce very low crop yields. This excellent Pinot Noir stands out because of its robust color, voluminous, full-bodied character and superb structure.
